This action of trespass on the case for negligence was brought to recover damages for the loss of plaintiff’s personal property temporarily stored in a part of a building that had been condemned by the city of Providence and later was purchased by the defendant for the purpose of demolition. The case was tried in the superior court before a jury and resulted in a verdict for the plaintiff in the sum of $1,760. Thereafter the trial justice granted the defendant’s motion for a new trial unless the plaintiff remitted all of the verdict in excess of $900. The remittitur was filed and the…
