Facts of Case

The defendant, Robert Wayne Hughes, appeals his conviction of aggravated murder in the first degree and the sentence of life imprisonment without possibility of parole which followed.

On June 17, 1982, one John Early was shot and killed in his home during an apparent robbery. A King County police officer, Sergeant Samuel Hicks, soon suspected that the defendant was involved in the murder.
