We consider whether the right of confrontation as explicated in Crawford v. Washington, 541 U.S. 36 (2004) (Crawford), applies to probation revocation hearings.1 We decide that the Crawford case is inapplicable and that the standard *62articulated in Commonwealth v. Durling, 407 Mass. 108, 117-118 (1990), controls our resolution of this case.
