Willis instituted this action against her on October 14, 1944. In it he prayed for a judgment of separation "a mensa et thoro" and, further, that he be awarded the permanent care, custody and control of their minor child, Mary Emma Willis, then ten years of age.

Answering, defendant admitted the abandonment, declaring that "she left her said husband…
