Defendant, Chad A. Jacobs, appeals an order from the circuit court of Knox County adjudging him guilty of criminal damage to property (720 ILCS 5/21 — 1(1)(a) (West 1998)). He claims that the trial judge should have appointed a new attorney to represent him on two occasions: (1) during the hearing on his motion for a new trial when he alleged that his attorney had rendered ineffective assistance of counsel; and (2) during his sentencing hearing when he alleged that his attorney had instructed him to lie while testifying at trial.…
