When James Cecil Law, Jr. purchased a thirty-nine dollar shot gun for “house protection,” he could not possibly have conceived of the ordeal it would cause him to undergo.
Mr. Law, a 32 year old black man, had recently married and moved to a predominantly white middle-class neighborhood. Within two weeks his home was broken into and a substantial amount of clothing and personal property was taken.
