delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a bench trial, the defendant, Paul G. Johnson, was convicted of the offense of involuntary manslaughter (111. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 9 — 3), and sentenced to a term of 2 to 10 years. On appeal, defendant contends that the maximum sentence is excessive.

On September 29, 1976, the defendant was arrested and subsequently charged with the murder of two-year-old Kenneth Willmore. Linda Willmore testified that she and her two-year-old son, the deceased, were living with the defendant in his mother’s home. On the above…
