Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Clinton County (McGill, J.), rendered November 27, 1996, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crimes of arson in the second degree and burglary in the second degree.

Testimony at trial, combined with defendant’s written confession admitted into evidence, established that on April 20, 1996 at approximately 4:00 a.m., defendant and a companion went to a party at a college fraternity house in the City of Plattsburgh, Clinton County, where a heated verbal exchange ensued between defendant and one of the fraternity brothers.
