I. INTRODUCTION

This case involves an allegation by plaintiff Columbia University (“Columbia”) of patent infringement against defendant Roche Diagnostics GmbH (formerly Boeh-ringer Mannheim, GmbH) (“Roche”), a multinational pharmaceutical corporation having its principal place of business in Mannheim, Germany.
