Defendant Michael Jon Hunter has entered a guilty plea to four counts of possession with intent to distribute various controlled substances, 21 U.S.C.A. § 841(a)(1), and a fifth count of felon in possession of firearms, 18 U.S.C.A. § 922(g)(1). Hunter is now before the court on sentencing, where two principal issues are presented: (1) whether the drug and firearms-possession counts should be grouped for purposes of calculating Hunter’s sentence, pursuant to United States Sentencing Guideline § 3D1.2(e), and (2) whether Hunter’s severe and longstanding drug…
