*194On June 14, 2017, Defendant, Gerrell Washington, was charged by bill of information with cruelty to persons with infirmities, a violation of La.R.S. 14:93.3.1 By written motion filed on January 11, 2018, Defendant waived his right to a jury trial.2 On July 19, 2018, Defendant was tried by a bench trial on both the present charge (cruelty to persons with infirmities) and a charge filed in a separate docket number (second degree battery).3 The trial court found Defendant guilty of both charges. The trial court ordered a Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSI) report and set sentencing.
