Claimant suffered a compensable back injury and was awarded permanent partial disability by the Industrial Commission (Commission) to the extent of 20% under the “man as the whole” provision of the Workers’ Compensation Act (Act) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 48, par. 138.8(d)(2)). In addition, the Commission refused to grant respondent Consolidated Freightways a credit against the award for a 15% “man as the whole” settlement claimant received for a prior back injury he suffered to the same disc location.
