In January, 1821, Milly Chavis exhibited her petition to the County Court of Pittsyl-vania, praying to be permitted to sue Jas. Arthur for her freedom, and stated the facts of her case. The Court proceeded in. the regular way to grant the petition. The case progressed; and after two continuances, came on for trial at the March Term, 1822. Both parties seem to have considered themselves ready, and to have gone willingly to trial; as the record discloses no motion fora continuance.
