This case presents two issues: 1) whether Michigan courts may exercise limited personal jurisdiction over a nonresident who becomes intoxicated in Michigan, chooses to drive intoxicated in Michigan, and causes an accident in another jurisdiction, and 2) whether compliance with the name-and-retain provision of the dramshop act will be excused when the allegedly intoxicated person is dismissed from litigation for lack of personal jurisdiction.
