ROBERTS, J., for the Court:

¶ 1. A jury sitting before the Pike County Circuit Court found Ricky M. Jackson guilty of aggravated assault. The circuit court sentenced Jackson to twenty years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with five years suspended and fifteen years to serve followed by five years of post-release supervision. Aggrieved, Jackson appeals and claims he received ineffective assistance of counsel because his trial attorney did not request a lesser-included-offense instruction on simple assault.
