Quinn, Chief Judge:

A general court-martial at Camp Pendleton, California, convicted the accused of desertion terminated by apprehension, in violation of Article 85, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC § 885, and sentenced him to a bad-conduct discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement at hard labor for eighteen months. The convening authority approved the sentence, but provided for suspension with automatic remission after the period of suspension.
