At the election held November 5, 1929, Charles Land, Republican, and J. Porter Land, Democrat, were opposing candidates for the office of sheriff of Fayette county. On the face of the returns Charles Land received 10,734 votes, and J. Porter Land received 10,737, a difference of 3 votes.
