After his first trial ended in a mistrial,1 the defendant was convicted of the murders in the first degree of Jay Schlosser and Heather Buchanan, on the theories of deliberate premeditation, extreme atrocity or cruelty, and felony-murder.2 He appealed from his convictions and from the denial of his post-conviction motions for a new trial and for postconviction discovery.
