MORRIS, Chief Justice.

This proceeding involves a taking by the State of North Dakota through its agency, the State Highway Commissioner, of two parcels of land which, since 1945, were parts of a larger tract used, owned and operated as an airport by the appellants. Along the section line immediately south of the airport ran a highway bearing the numbers U.S. 2 and U.S. 85. At the time these proceedings were commenced, the highway right of way over which U.S. 2 and U.S. 85 ran was 100 feet wide and extended 50 feet on each side of the section line.
