1 ¿Defendant, Gary F. Pitt, was charged by bill of information with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:95.1. In the bill of information, the State alleged that defendant was a convicted felon because he had previously been convicted of possession of cocaine, in violation of LSA-R.S. 40:967(C). Defendant pled not guilty. After a one-day trial, a 12-member jury found defendant guilty as charged. The trial court sentenced defendant to 15 years at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.…
