Some time in 1854 there lived in the state of Alabama two persons, one by the name of James P. Nimmo, and the other by the name of Ann E. Hughes, who was a minor. In that year these two persons were married to each other. At the time of this marriage, James P. Nimmo, the husband, was a person without property or effects. Mrs. Nimmo, the wife, was the owner of a considerable estate, consisting chiefly of slaves and money, held for her by her guardian in Alabama.
