VILLEMEZ, Judge:
The appellant was tried by a general court-martial composed of officer and enlisted members. Contrary to his pleas, the members found the appellant guilty of maiming and assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm in violation of Articles 124 and 128, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 924 and 928. On 21 May 1997, the appellant was sentenced to confinement for 12 months, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, reduction to pay grade E-l, and a bad-conduct discharge.
