THOMAS, Judge.

This appeal is the result of three separate lawsuits. The factual history is as follows. Gail Howard (Gail), born 3 March 1956, suffered from multiple sclerosis and lived with her parents. Until the incident in question, which occurred on 20 October 1993, Gail was a lively individual, able to do almost everything except walk and feed herself. Her condition, however, did make it difficult for her to hold items in her hands.
