The St. Clair river is the outlet of Lake Huron, and it empties into Lake St. Clair. At its mouth lies Harsen’s Island, the northerly part of which is hard íand. This island divides the waters of the river. A portion of the water passes to the southwest, along the easterly side of the island. This is called the “ South Channel.” The remainder of the water coming down the river is deflected by the island to the west, along the southerly side of township 2 N. of range 16 E. of the United States survey upon the north side of the lake.
