This is a consolidated appeal arising from a jury verdict in favor of Bessie A. Stock-ard on claims of slander and breach of contract against defendants Orby Z. Moss, Jr., the Athletic Director of the University of the District of Columbia, the Board of Trustees of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), and the District of Columbia (the District).
