This suit was brought by the state revenue agent, in the circuit court of Madison county, to recover certain balances of unpaid municipal taxes, claimed to be due by the Mississippi State Bank, for the years 1894 and 1895, to the city of Canton, in which said bank is located. The city of Canton levied an ad valorem tax of twelve mills for the year 1894, and of eleven mills for the year 1895, on all property subject to taxation.
