delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant Christopher Keefe was charged with one count of attempted first degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and one count of armed violence. A jury found defendant guilty of all offenses. After trial, the court granted defendant’s motion for judgment of acquittal on the attempted murder charge, and ruled that the guilty verdicts on the aggravated battery counts merged for the purposes of sentencing.
