The plaintiffs commenced an action in the Superior Court seeking a determination of the amount of the deficiency in the defendant’s appropriation of money for the support of its public schools. They also sought an order that the defendant provide funds in the amount of that deficiency plus twenty-five percent of that amount. G. L. c. 71, § 34.
