In 2005, after a jury trial, defendant, Wade D. Taylor, was found guilty of home invasion (720 ILCS 5/12 — 11(a)(2) (West 2004)) and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. On direct appeal, this court affirmed. People v. Taylor, No. 2 — 05—0953 (2007) (unpublished order under Supreme Court Rule 23). In June 2007, defendant filed a petition for relief from judgment pursuant to section 2 — 1401 of the Code of Civil Procedure (735 ILCS 5/2 — 1401 (West 2006)), and in July 2008, he filed a postconviction petition pursuant to the Post-Conviction Hearing Act (the Act) (725 ILCS 5/122 — 1 et seq.…
