The recovery in this action was for the value of a large quantity of • fresh beef, and also a quantity of mutton, placed upon the defendant’s steamer, the City of Brussels, at ■ the city of New York, on or about the 21st day of April, 1877, to be carried for the plaintiffs and delivered at .the city of Liverpool in England.
