Defendant is a Manhattan attorney whose practice consists largely of debt collection work for various businesses including Gralla Publications, a large magazine publishing company. The instant indictment stems from an alleged fraudulent scheme whereby the defendant in collusion with Stephen Weiss, who was then the credit manager of Gralla Publications, collected fees from Gralla for collections work not actually performed.
