The defendant, Kevin Bowers, was charged with one count of second degree murder for fatally shooting Dajuan Kennedy, a violation of La. R.S. 14:30.1. After trial, the jury returned a guilty verdict of manslaughter, La. R.S. 14:31. Subsequently, Bowers was adjudicated a fourth-felony offender, and the court sentenced him to life imprisonment at hard labor, without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
