Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Albany County (Breslin, J.), rendered May 3, 2002, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crime of manslaughter in the first degree.

*888Following an altercation that left a woman dying of stab wounds outside the door of an apartment, police arrived and were informed that the young female assailant had retreated inside.
