Under the auspices of people interested in that subject, a public meeting was called to be held at the Town Hall in New York city for the consideration of certain aspects of the movement for birth control. The police refused to allow the meeting to be held and subsequently, under the initiative of an organization known as the American Civil Liberties League, an investigation was instituted to determine whether such action of the police was proper or was an unwarranted interference with the right of free speech.
