Since October 6,1893, the defendants have owned a large number of pieces of real estate situate in the county of Itasca, in this state. Prior to that date, while other individuals owned those lands, they were assessed for each of the years from 1888 to 1893, inclusive, by the proper county officials of said county, pursuant to the provisions of the general tax laws of the state; and the taxes for each of said years were, before the same became delinquent, paid by the owners of said lands.
