Following an altercation which culminated in defendant’s stabbing a police officer, defendant was charged with assault with intent to commit murder, CL 1948, § 750.83 (Stat Ann 1962 Rev § 28.278).

On January 21, 1969, the people moved to amend the information and add thereto a second count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, CL 1948, § 750.84 (Stat Ann 1962 Rev § 28.279). Defendant, after being advised fully of his rights by his attorney, entered a plea of guilty to the second count. Then, the trial court advised defendant of his rights again, and examined him as…
