This is an action brought to recover a share of the proceeds of certain forfeitures incurred by parties for violation of the revenue laws at the port of New Orleans, while the claimant was collector there, during the year I860. Proceedings were instituted in the district court of the district of Louisiana for the condemnation and forfeiture of wines which had been seized as imported in fraud of the laws. Compromises were entered into between the owners of the property and the Secretary of the Treasury, by which a large sum of money was paid into court for cost, duties, and forfeiture. After…
