Robert Shannon Carswell, an inmate in the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections, appeals from a judgment of the Montgomery Circuit Court ("the trial court") dismissing his action against the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles *48and the State of Alabama (hereinafter collectively referred to as "the board").
