Nuss, J.:

Theodore V. Horn, II, was convicted by a juiy of first-degree premeditated murder for the death of his biological grandmother, Tina Weaver. Based upon the district court’s finding that the crime was heinous, atrocious, and cruel, he was given a hard 50 life sentence. Our jurisdiction is under K.S.A. 22-3601(b)(l), a maximum sentence of life imprisonment imposed.
