On August 16, 1911, the respondent, Northwest Lumber Company, issued a number of its obligations payable over a period of years. The interest on the obligations was made payable on the first days of January and July of each year. To secure the payment of the principal and interest as the same fell due, the lumber company executed to the Scandinavian American Bank, of Seattle, a mortgage deed covering certain described real and personal property owned by it.
