Justice Benjamin N. Cardozo wrote in United States v. Memphis Cotton Oil Co., 288 U. S. 62, 67-68, 53 S. Ct. 278, 280 (1933) that: This case turns upon the definition of “cause of action” as that term relates to the doctrine of res judicata.
