In H'ecember, 1920, J. A. Ely and his wife, L. B. Ely,' were endeavoring to secure a loan of fifty thousand dollars, the proceeds to be used to retire matured mortgage obligations then resting upon their plantation, and to finance their farming operations for the ensuing year. The matter was discussed with the Bank of Morehead, which was affiliated with the Grenada Bank, and it was arranged that the cashier of the Bank of Morehead and Mr. "Wl L. Harrison, a director in the Grenada Bank, should accompany Mr. Ely to Grenada to interview Mr. J. T. Thomas, the head of the Grenada Bank.…
