Plaintiff Choice Hotels International, Inc., the owner of several national hotel chains including the Econo Lodge motels, filed this lawsuit on October 19, 1999, asserting several claims of unfair trade practices arising under federal and state law. Choice Hotels initially named four defendants, but after settling its claims with and moving for voluntary dismissal of two of them, only two defendants remain: Suresh C.
