This is an original proceeding commenced in the Supreme Judicial Court by the filing of a report by the Committee on Judicial Responsibility and Disability. 1 The report alleges that, pursuant to a jury verdict, a final judgment entered in the Superior Court (Hancock County, Alexander, J.) determined that respondent, David M. Cox, while a judge of the Maine District Court engaged in conduct that constituted fraud. Cox was found individually liable for punitive damages in the amount of $75,000, and jointly and severally liable for compensatory damages in the amount of $250,000. See Ferrell v.…
