Defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment in the State prison for southern Michigan at Jackson, on June 3, 1963, for the first-degree murder of Leonard Reed. The pertinent facts to this appeal appear as follows:

On March 26, 1963, during the early part of the evening, Leonard Reed, age 16, and his sister, Naomi Reed, age 14, went to the Howard residence located at 5420 McKeaehie road, in White Lake township, Oakland county, Michigan.
