The defendant was tried before a Superior Court judge and jury on indictments charging murder in the first degree, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and armed assault within a dwelling. The jury returned guilty verdicts on all three indictments. The trial judge then imposed the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without parole for murder in the first degree, along with sentences of fifteen to twenty years, concurrent, for armed assault within a dwelling, and eight to ten years, concurrent, for assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.
