The entangled estates involved in these appeals are those of the four victims of the much publicized 1986 Gates murders in the Town of Canaan, Columbia County, namely, Robert Gates, Sr. (hereinafter Gates), his son Robert Gates, Jr., his infant nephew Jason Gates (hereinafter Jason) and his live-in girl*429friend, Cheryl Brahm.
