POSNER, Circuit Judge.

This is a suit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 for injunctive relief and damages against several welfare and judicial officers (including a judge) in Putnam County, Indiana. The plaintiffs claim that their rights under the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment were violated by these officers in connection with proceedings that led to the plaintiffs’ grandchildren (as we shall call them without meaning thereby to prejudge their status, which is contested) being removed from the plaintiffs’ homes and adopted by strangers.
