In these consolidated cases Claude J. Brady and eleven other plaintiffs each filed a separate petition for a writ of mandamus to compel the Civil Service Commission to^give them credit for military service so as to advance their standing on the eligible list for the position of sergeant in the police department of the City of Chicago.
