BOWMAN, Circuit Judge.

Maurice E. Patterson was convicted by a jury of being a felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1) (2000). After determining that Patterson previously had been convicted of three violent felonies, see 18 U.S.C. § 924(e) (2000), and was thus an armed career criminal under section 4B1.4 of the United States Sentencing Guidelines, the District Court 1 sentenced Patterson to 188 months’ imprisonment.
